President's Annual Report


Membership 40 - The Festival of the Golden Grain commenced this year. Lion Bob Bell passed away. Four Lions and their Lions Ladies attended the Convention. The Club hosted a combined Service Club dinner with guest speaker Paul Kahl talking on Cotton at Wee Waa. Apex won the bowls match. The Club assisted the "Talkers and Storkers Ball", TB X-Ray Unit, Diggers Race Club and the Garah Gymkhana.

The erection of a picnic shelter with four tables and seats for a Childrens playground at Kirkby Park was commenced and £226 allocated to complete the project. Six local children were exchanged with 6 from Lane Cove for holidays and £1,538 was spent on Youth projects.

A tea chest of spectacles valued at £3,750 was sent to India and a Talking Book was given to the newly formed Moree Branch of the Royal Blind Society.

14.5 tons of firewood was cut off Lion Clem Borland's property and delivered to the pensioners and a dinner given to pensioners. Two new road signs designed by Lion Jim Foster were erected. The signs were worded "Moree Lions Club Welcomes Careful Drivers".

A total of £3,030 was donated and 1819 man hours worked. Major donations included £1,186 to Gwydir Handicapped Childrens Association, painting Scout hall £147 and numerous other donations. The Queen candidates for the Golden Grain raised £1,186 and the first Golden Grain winner was Stephanie Ritchie.
